About Robert Parish
A 7'1" center out of Centenary College, Robert Parish was drafted 8th overall by the Golden State Warriors in 1976 and went on to play a remarkable 21 NBA seasons (1976-1997) for the Warriors, Boston Celtics, Charlotte Hornets, and Chicago Bulls. Traded to Boston in 1980, he anchored the Celtics' famed "Big Three" frontcourt alongside Larry Bird and Kevin McHale, winning three championships there (1981, 1984, 1986) before capturing a fourth with Chicago in 1997 at age 43. A nine-time All-Star, he earned All-NBA Second Team (1982) and Third Team (1989) honors and retired with 23,334 points and 14,715 rebounds. Teammate Cedric Maxwell nicknamed him "The Chief" for his stoic demeanor, after the silent Native American character in One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest. He set the NBA record for most career games played (1,611) - a mark that stood for decades until LeBron James surpassed it - and was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 2003. Fittingly for a card of the ever-durable "Chief," the front nameplate carries an uncorrected error, misspelling his surname as "PARRISH" with a double R.
