1986-87 Fleer #73 Kevin McHale

About Kevin McHale
A 6-foot-10 power forward out of the University of Minnesota, Kevin McHale was drafted third overall by the Boston Celtics in the 1980 NBA Draft and spent his entire 13-season career (1980-1993) in Boston. Anchoring the frontcourt alongside Larry Bird and Robert Parish, he won three NBA championships (1981, 1984, 1986), made seven All-Star teams, and was voted All-NBA First Team in 1987. One of the era's premier two-way big men, McHale earned back-to-back Sixth Man of the Year awards (1984, 1985) coming off the bench and was named to six All-Defensive teams. Celebrated for a dazzling arsenal of low-post moves and footwork, he scored a career-high 56 points against Detroit in 1985; teammate Danny Ainge dubbed the post "The Black Hole" because the ball rarely came back out once McHale got it, while McHale called it "the torture chamber." He was inducted into the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame in 1999 and later named to the NBA's 75th Anniversary Team.
