1986-87 Fleer #85 Jim Paxson

About Jim Paxson
A 6'6" shooting guard out of the University of Dayton, James Joseph Paxson Jr. earned consensus All-America honors as a senior, averaging over 23 points per game, before the Portland Trail Blazers took him 12th overall in the 1979 NBA Draft. He played 11 seasons (1979-1990), spending nine years in Portland and his final two-plus with the Boston Celtics after a February 1988 trade. Paxson was a two-time NBA All-Star (1983 and 1984) and made the All-NBA Second Team in 1984, and he averaged 14.3 points per game for his career. When Portland dealt him to Boston, he departed as the franchise's all-time leading scorer. He came from a basketball family: his father, Jim Paxson Sr., played in the NBA, and his younger brother, John Paxson, won three titles as a Chicago Bulls guard and later ran the team's front office.

About this card
The 1986-87 Fleer Jim Paxson is card #85 in Fleer's landmark 'Premier' issue - the first nationally-distributed NBA set since 1981-82 Topps and, for many collectors, the start of the modern era of basketball cards. Jim Paxson was already an established star by 1986; this is not his rookie card, but he is one of the names that make the set a who's-who of the era. He is pictured with the Portland Trail Blazers.
