About Dutch Revelle
Robert H. "Dutch" Revelle was a right-handed pitcher who spent his entire professional career in the minor leagues, chiefly in the Virginia League with the Richmond Colts, the team pictured on his T206 card. He starred for Richmond in the years the American Tobacco Company was assembling the set: he went 26–12 in 1908 and topped that with a 29–11 mark in 1909, and he was a genuine workhorse, logging more than 300 innings in three separate seasons—two for the Colts and one for the Portsmouth Truckers. Across roughly eight seasons in the Virginia circuit he compiled a documented minor-league record of 110–94. Revelle never reached the major leagues; after throwing just 21 innings for Portsmouth in 1913 he retired at age 31. Within the T206 set he belongs to the "Southern Leaguers" subgroup—minor-league players issued mainly on Piedmont, Old Mill, and Hindu backs—making him a lower-profile but authentic common that pairs a real deadball-era career with the hobby's most famous tobacco issue.
