Across PSA and SGC, roughly 516 examples have been graded, with only 20 in NM 7 or better — a reminder of how tough this issue is in high grade.

About Ed Greminger

Lorenzo Edward "Battleship" Gremminger — the card spells the surname "Greminger" — was a right-handed third baseman born March 30, 1874, in Canton, Ohio. A big man at 6-foot-1 and 200 pounds, he broke into the majors at age 21 with the Cleveland Spiders in 1895, then spent roughly six years back in the minors before earning a second chance. He returned as the regular third baseman for the Boston Beaneaters in 1902 and 1903, leading National League third basemen in putouts both years, in fielding percentage in 1902, and in assists and double plays in 1903. A final big-league stop with the Detroit Tigers in 1904 (last game July 30, 1904) closed out four MLB seasons: 383 games, a .251 average, 356 hits, 7 home runs and 164 RBIs. He kept playing in the minors afterward — Minneapolis, then Montgomery of the Southern Association from 1908 to 1910 (about 117 games at third in 1909), the tenure that put him in the T206 set's Southern Leaguer series. He was never a Hall of Famer; his card is a minor-league Southern Leaguer subject, not a star. He died in his hometown of Canton on May 26, 1942.
