About Jimmy Hart

Card #204 pictures James Henry "Hub" Hart, a catcher born February 2, 1878, in Everett, Massachusetts. A standout college athlete who played football at Boston College and Georgetown before catching for Georgetown's nine, Hart signed with the Chicago White Sox in June 1905 and made his major-league debut on July 16 that year. He caught parts of three seasons in Chicago (1905-1907), appearing in 57 games and batting .213 with 11 RBIs and no home runs. Hart was a member of the 1906 "Hitless Wonders" White Sox that won the World Series over the crosstown Cubs, though he did not play in the Series itself. His nickname "Hub" traced to his central role in the team's plays at Georgetown. From 1908 to 1910 he dropped to the minors with the Montgomery Senators/Climbers of the Southern Association — the club shown on this Southern Leaguer card, one of the T206 set's scarcer regional subseries. He later played in the Pacific Coast League and other circuits, worked as a dentist, and settled in Fort Wayne, Indiana, where he ran a semipro club and a billiard hall. He died there October 10, 1960.
