About Molly Miller

Charles M. "Molly" Miller was a deadball-era catcher whose entire professional career unfolded in the minor leagues; he never appeared in the majors. Born June 14, 1878, he surfaces in the records around 1905 and caught three seasons for the Dallas Giants of the Texas League from 1907 through 1909, hitting .278, .264, and .248 in heavy everyday duty behind the plate. It was as a Dallas backstop that the American Tobacco Company pictured him in the T206 White Border set, part of the "Southern Leaguers" subset that also drew on the Texas League. His best years came next in the Class-A Western League with the Sioux City Packers, where in 1910 he posted a career-high .317 average with 25 doubles over 477 at-bats before slipping to .253 in 1911. He caught on afterward with Youngstown, Peterborough, and a trio of Buckeye League clubs, playing roughly a decade of pro ball. He died May 9, 1961, in Massillon, Ohio. As a Southern Leaguer, his card is among the tougher, more sought-after subjects in the T206 set.
