About Heinie Schuble
Henry George "Heinie" Schuble Jr. was born November 1, 1906, in Houston, Texas, and broke into pro ball in 1926 as a second baseman in the Class D Texas Association before the St. Louis Cardinals signed him. He debuted in the majors with the Cardinals in July 1927, filling in at shortstop after regular Tommy Thevenow broke his ankle, and that same month he and bride Agnes Shaw were married in a home-plate ceremony before 5,000 fans in Danville, Illinois - believed to be the first such wedding in Organized Baseball. Schuble spent most of his career with the Detroit Tigers (1929, 1932-1935), moving between shortstop and third base; his best season came in 1932, when he hit .271 with 52 RBI in 102 games. By the 1933 season pictured on this card, he had been pushed into a reserve role, appearing in just 49 games and batting .219 as Detroit's infield turned over. Listed at only 5-foot-9 and 152 pounds, he was considered undersized for everyday duty and finished his major-league career back with St. Louis in 1936, closing with a career line of .252, 11 home runs, and 116 RBI over 332 games. He later worked at an Exxon refinery in Baytown, Texas, and lived until 1990.
