About Bo McMillin
Bo McMillin quarterbacked little Centre College to one of the sport's immortal afternoons. A three-time All-American with consensus honors in 1919 and 1921, McMillin was the star of the Praying Colonels, a nickname earned after he led the team in prayer before a big game. In 1921 he broke loose for the only touchdown as Centre stunned Harvard 6-0, handing the Crimson their first defeat in five seasons in what is still called football's upset of the century. He moved straight into coaching, building programs at Centenary, Geneva and Kansas State before taking over Indiana, where his 1945 team went unbeaten, claimed the school's first Big Ten championship and made him national Coach of the Year. McMillin finished as head coach of the NFL's Detroit Lions and Philadelphia Eagles, and when the College Football Hall of Fame chose its inaugural class in 1951, he was in it.
