1955 Topps All-American #46 Arnie Lassman
About Arnie Lassman
Al Lassman anchored the New York University line in the late 1920s, a bruising tackle on coach Chick Meehan's powerhouse Violet teams and a member of the class of 1929. He was already drawing All-Eastern recognition in 1926, when Tad Jones placed him on his first team, and by 1928 he was blocking for All-America back Ken Strong on an NYU club that went 8-2 and finished among the nation's top ten in the Dickinson ratings. That season the Associated Press named Lassman first-team All-Eastern, while the Central Press Association and the Newspaper Enterprise Association both put him on their All-America second teams. Football was only half the story, because Lassman also ruled the ring as collegiate heavyweight boxing champion. New York University inducted him into its athletics Hall of Fame in 1974.
