About Donn Moomaw

Donn Moomaw starred at center and linebacker for UCLA from 1950 through 1952 and stands among the greatest linemen the school has produced. He made first-team All-America in 1950 and was a consensus All-American in 1952, when both the Associated Press and United Press International named him the nation's Lineman of the Year. UCLA retired his No. 80, and the Los Angeles Rams made him the ninth overall pick in the 1953 NFL draft, but Moomaw declined a pro career because he did not want to play football on Sundays, appearing only briefly in Canada before entering Princeton Theological Seminary. Ordained a Presbyterian minister, he led Bel Air Presbyterian Church for nearly three decades and delivered invocations at Ronald Reagan's inaugurations as California's governor and as president of the United States. He was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame in 1973.
