About Bobby Adams
Robert Henry "Bobby" Adams (1921-1997) was a right-handed second and third baseman who reached the majors with the Cincinnati Reds on April 16, 1946, opening as the club's regular second baseman before settling in as its everyday third baseman in 1951. Over a 14-season career (1946-1959) he played for the Reds/Redlegs (1946-1955), Chicago White Sox (1955), Baltimore Orioles (1956) and Chicago Cubs (1957-1959), appearing in 1,281 games and batting .269 with 1,082 hits, 37 home runs and 303 RBI. His finest year came in 1952, when he led the National League in singles (152), at-bats (637) and games (154) while hitting .283 with career highs of 180 hits and 25 doubles. Adams was the brother of first baseman Dick Adams and the father of outfielder Mike Adams, and after retiring he coached for the Cubs and ran the Triple-A Tacoma Cubs as club president. This card carries the Cincinnati "Redlegs" name the team used during the Red Scare era, and as a high-number (Series 4) it is among the scarcer cards in the 1956 set.
