About the 1958 Milwaukee Braves
The 1958 Topps Milwaukee Braves team card, #377, reports a championship season. Fred Haney's 1957 club went 95-59, took the National League pennant by eight games over St. Louis, then beat the Yankees in seven games for the only World Series title the franchise won in Milwaukee. Lew Burdette won three of those games. Hank Aaron took the league MVP award with 44 home runs and 132 RBI, Warren Spahn became the first left-hander to win the Cy Young Award, and Eddie Mathews added 32 homers. Red Schoendienst arrived in a June 15 trade for Bobby Thomson and Danny O'Connell, and the lineup scored 772 runs. County Stadium drew over two million fans, tops in the league. Topps printed #377 in its fifth series, and it is one of the first team cards with a checklist back. This copy lists the sixth-series checklist in numerical order, while the common version lists the whole set alphabetically.
