Ray Shearer, born in Jacobus, Pennsylvania, was a right-handed outfielder whose major league career lasted two games. He signed with the Brooklyn Dodgers before the 1950 season and led the Class D Wisconsin State League with 30 home runs and 137 RBIs for Sheboygan in his first year of pro ball. He spent 13 seasons in the minors, finishing with a .288 average and 204 home runs in 1,614 games. Brooklyn traded him to the Milwaukee Braves in July 1956, and in 1957 he hit .316 with 29 home runs for Wichita before a late-season call-up. He debuted on September 18 and, on the final day of the season, pinch-hit a ninth-inning single that helped beat Cincinnati. That hit left him with a lifetime .500 batting average. He returned to the minors and left baseball in 1962, and he died in York, Pennsylvania, in 1982 at age 52.
