Baseball Thrills subset (#461-470): "Kaline Becomes Youngest Bat Champ". Ten cards spotlighting historic moments.

About Al Kaline
Al Kaline, nicknamed "Mr. Tiger," spent his entire 22-season Hall of Fame career with the Detroit Tigers, debuting as a teenager in 1953. In 1955, at age 20, he became the youngest batting champion in major-league history, hitting .340, one day younger than Ty Cobb had been in 1907. An 18-time All-Star and 10-time Gold Glove winner known for his powerful throwing arm, Kaline finished his career in 1974 with 3,007 hits, 399 home runs, and a .297 average. In his only World Series appearance, 1968, he batted .379 with two home runs and eight RBI to help Detroit defeat St. Louis. He was elected to the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1980, his first year of eligibility. His 1959 Topps cards, issued during his mid-career prime, come four years after his historic batting title and capture one of the finest all-around right fielders of his generation.
