About Rocco Colavito

Rocky Colavito was a powerful right fielder who became one of the American League's premier sluggers with the Cleveland Indians in the late 1950s. On June 10, 1959, he became just the second player in AL history to hit four home runs in four consecutive at-bats within a nine-inning game, driving in six runs in an 11-8 win over the Baltimore Orioles at Memorial Stadium — a feat he later called the highlight of his career. That same season he clubbed 42 home runs, becoming the first Indians player with back-to-back 40-homer seasons, and tied Harmon Killebrew for the AL home run title while leading the league in extra-base hits and total bases. Colavito was a beloved figure in Cleveland, and his controversial trade to Detroit after the 1959 season became one of the most criticized moves in franchise history. He finished his career with 374 home runs. His 1959 Topps card captures him at the peak of his power.
