About Wes Covington

Wes Covington was a left fielder who played from 1956 through 1966, most notably as part of the Milwaukee Braves' pennant-winning teams. He helped power the Braves' stretch run in 1957, batting .284 with 21 home runs and 65 RBI in 96 games, then made a lasting mark in the World Series with two spectacular diving catches in left field in Games 2 and 5 that preserved wins for pitcher Lew Burdette as Milwaukee won the title. In 1958 he set career highs, batting .330 with 24 homers and 74 RBI in just 90 games. He later spent five productive seasons with the Philadelphia Phillies (1961-1965), batting .284 with 61 homers there, and also played for the White Sox, Athletics, Cubs, and Dodgers. His 1959 Topps cards (#290 and #565) come from his time as a middle-of-the-order threat for the defending NL champion Braves.
