It is one of the set's star key cards. 1961-62 Fleer was Fleer's only major NBA issue between the 1957-58 Topps set and the 1969-70 Topps era - 66 cards split into 44 Portrait cards (#1-44) and 22 In Action cards (#45-66), every one single-printed with no short prints.
About K.C. Jones
K.C. Jones was a defensive stalwart at the University of San Francisco, where he and Hall of Fame teammate Bill Russell won back-to-back NCAA championships in 1955 and 1956; he also earned a 1956 Olympic gold medal. Drafted by the Boston Celtics in 1956, the 6-foot-1 guard debuted in 1958 after military service and played nine seasons (1958–67), all in Boston. Never a big scorer at 7.4 points per game, Jones was prized as a tenacious defensive specialist and playmaker, and he played on eight consecutive NBA championship teams. He was enshrined in the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in 1989, and later coached the Celtics to the 1984 and 1986 titles. This 1961-62 Fleer card is his rookie card — an early keepsake of one of basketball's greatest winners and its premier perimeter defenders of the era.
