About Tom Heinsohn

Thomas "Tom" Heinsohn was a consensus All-American at the College of the Holy Cross, which he led to the 1954 NIT title, before joining the Boston Celtics as a 1956 territorial draft pick. The 6-foot-7 forward won NBA Rookie of the Year in 1957 and spent his entire nine-year playing career (1956–65) in Boston, averaging 18.6 points and 8.8 rebounds per game. A six-time All-Star and four-time All-NBA Second Team selection, Heinsohn played on eight NBA championship teams. He was inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame as a player in 1986, and again as a coach in 2015 after guiding the Celtics to the 1974 and 1976 titles; he also spent decades as the team's beloved broadcaster. On this 1961-62 Fleer card he is a veteran Celtics star, years before his celebrated coaching and broadcasting careers.
