About this card

Cards #306-313 tell the 1960 World Series game by game - the Pirates over the Yankees on Bill Mazeroski's Game 7 home run - and close with the Pirates celebrating.

The story on this card

Card 309 sits in the World Series subset of Topps' fourth series for 1961, replaying Game 4 of the 1960 Fall Classic, October 9 at Yankee Stadium before 67,812. Bill Skowron's two-out homer in the fourth had New York ahead 1-0. In the fifth Gino Cimoli singled to right, and when Smoky Burgess grounded into a fielder's choice the throw to second could not retire Cimoli. That is the crucial play the card is named for, and the front pairs him with Yankees shortstop Tony Kubek. Two outs later Vern Law doubled Cimoli home and Bill Virdon singled in two. Law went 6 1/3 innings, Roy Face finished for the save, Ralph Terry took the 3-2 loss, and the Series was even at two.
