The story on this card
Card 311 belongs to the 1961 Topps World Series subset and pictures Whitey Ford, who kept the Yankees alive in Game 6 at Forbes Field on October 12, 1960. Trailing three games to two, New York battered Bob Friend and five relievers for 17 hits and a 12-0 win, scoring once in the second and five more in the third before adding two apiece in the sixth, seventh and eighth. Mickey Mantle's two-run single keyed the third, and Bobby Richardson tripled twice and drove in three. Ford answered with his second complete-game shutout of the Series, allowing seven singles, walking one and striking out five. It forced Game 7, though Casey Stengel was later criticized for letting Ford finish rather than saving him for relief. This is a fourth-series card.
