About this card
Cards #401-410 are the Baseball Thrills subset: ten event cards recalling famous feats, from Babe Ruth's 60th home run to Harvey Haddix's twelve perfect innings.
The story on this card
This Baseball Thrills card revisits May 1, 1920, at Braves Field, where Boston's Joe Oeschger and Brooklyn's Leon Cadore each worked all 26 innings of the longest game in major-league history. Brooklyn scored in the fifth on Ivy Olson's broken-bat single; Boston tied it in the sixth on Walt Cruise's triple and Tony Boeckel's single. No one scored again. Olson's double play in the ninth killed Boston's best chance, and catcher Hank Gowdy's diving tag ended a bases-loaded 17th. Oeschger set down 18 straight from the eighth and allowed no hit over the final nine innings; Cadore retired his last 19. Umpire Barry McCormick called it for darkness, 1-1. Card #403 belongs to the Baseball Thrills subset in the fifth print series.
