The story on this card
Card 402 in Topps' 1961 Baseball Thrills subset relives Don Larsen's perfect game. On October 8, 1956, with the Series tied at two games apiece, the Yankees right-hander faced the Brooklyn Dodgers in Game Five at Yankee Stadium before 64,519 fans and retired all 27 men he faced without a hit, a walk, or a baserunner. Working from the no-windup delivery he had developed late that season, Larsen struck out seven and needed 97 pitches, ending it when umpire Babe Pinelli called a third strike on pinch hitter Dale Mitchell. Mickey Mantle's fourth-inning homer and a Hank Bauer single made it 2-0 over Sal Maglie. It remains the only perfect game in World Series history. The card is a series 5 issue.
