About this card

This is one of the eleven combo cards in the 1961 Topps set, each pairing two or three players under a headline rather than giving one man his own card.

The story on this card

Card #75 pairs two St. Louis Cardinals right-handers under a title that says who is teaching whom: "Lindy Shows Larry," bullpen ace Lindy McDaniel and workhorse starter Larry Jackson. Both arrived off 1960 seasons worth showing off. McDaniel went 12-4 with a 2.09 ERA, 1.29 in relief alone, and his 26 saves led the league, carrying him to both of that summer's All-Star Games and a third-place finish in the Cy Young voting. Jackson led the National League with 38 starts and 282 innings, won 18, and made both All-Star squads himself. They even shared a win on June 2, 1960, McDaniel pitching the ninth of Jackson's 4-3 decision over the Giants.

Larry Jackson - durable right-hander for the Cardinals, Cubs and Phillies from 1955 to 1968; a four-time National League All-Star who won 194 games and finished runner-up in the 1964 Cy Young voting. Lindy McDaniel - durable right-handed reliever who pitched 21 big-league seasons for five clubs, led his league in saves three times, twice won The Sporting News Fireman of the Year award, and finished with 174 saves and 1,361 strikeouts.
