About Camilo Carreon

The 1962 season handed Carreon the everyday job: he appeared in 106 games, made 85 starts at catcher, and hit .256 with a career-high 19 doubles and 37 RBIs while Lollar slid into the reserve role. His White Sox card in the 1962 Topps set, number 178, is a second-series card. Collectors track it in two states, one with the green tint found on some copies and one without.

Camilo Garcia Carreon was born August 6, 1937, in Colton, California, the youngest of five children; his father had emigrated from Durango, Mexico, and spent thirty years at a Colton cement plant. A standout catcher at Colton Union High School, he signed with the Chicago White Sox in 1956 and hit over .300 at three minor league stops, including .311 for Triple-A Indianapolis in 1959, which earned him the American Association's outstanding rookie award. He debuted in the majors on the closing day of Chicago's pennant-winning 1959 season and stuck for good in 1961. Over eight seasons he batted .264 with 260 hits, 11 home runs and 114 RBIs, and he caught 320 games with only 13 errors for a .993 fielding mark. Torn tendons in his right arm in 1964 reduced the rest of his career to short stays with Cleveland and Baltimore, and he retired after the 1967 season to raise his family in Tucson, Arizona, where he later played a season for the Tucson Toros, coached them through 1972, and stayed in Little League and amateur men's baseball until his death in 1987 at age 50. Colton elected him to its hall of fame in 2006, the first Hispanic honoree.

Graded population — a scarcity guide, not a price. Snapshot 2026-09-24. Half-grades fold down (8.5→8), and PSA's qualified grades are counted separately from the straight-grade rows shown here. Where a grader registers a variation separately its population is listed under that variation. Slabs of the three cards printed #139 are joined by description, never by number alone. PSA registers the green tints as a separate set; a tint's population is listed under that state of the card it belongs to.
