About Danny McDevitt

The Twins held him for less than a year. Minnesota sold McDevitt to the Kansas City Athletics on April 10, 1962, and Kansas City is the club named on this card - his fourth big-league organization in three seasons. The A's used him almost entirely in relief: 33 appearances with a single start, ten games finished, an 0-3 record and a 5.82 ERA across 51 innings. His last outing came on September 19, 1962, and he never pitched in the majors again. Number 493 lands in the sixth print series of the 1962 set.

Daniel Eugene McDevitt was a left-handed pitcher born November 18, 1932, in Manhattan and raised in Hallstead, Pennsylvania, where he starred in high school. He was attending St. Bonaventure University when the Yankees signed him as an amateur free agent in September 1951; released the next year, he served in the Army during the Korean War and then worked his way up the Dodgers chain. He debuted with Brooklyn on June 17, 1957, and is best remembered for the complete-game 2-0 shutout he threw over the Pittsburgh Pirates in the Dodgers' final game at Ebbets Field on September 24, 1957, a five-hitter with nine strikeouts in front of 6,702 fans. He pitched on through the club's move to Los Angeles, reaching a career-best 10-8 in 1959, when the Dodgers beat the White Sox in six games for the World Series title, though he did not appear in that Series. He finished with the Yankees and Twins in 1961 and the Kansas City Athletics in 1962, closing at 21-27 with a 4.40 ERA and 303 strikeouts in 155 games over six seasons. He later lived in Social Circle, Georgia, working in real estate, and died in Covington, Georgia, on November 20, 2010, two days after his 78th birthday.

Graded population — a scarcity guide, not a price. Snapshot 2026-09-24. Half-grades fold down (8.5→8), and PSA's qualified grades are counted separately from the straight-grade rows shown here. Slabs of the three cards printed #139 are joined by description, never by number alone. PSA registers the green tints as a separate set; a tint's population is listed under that state of the card it belongs to.
