About Larry Burright

Card #348 is Burright's rookie card, a series-4 issue listing him with the Los Angeles Dodgers after a .291 season at Double-A in 1961 finally moved him past five years in the farm system. He opened as the club's regular second baseman, batting .333 in May and drawing praise from Walt Alston for his speed and defense, then sank across the summer to .205 with 4 home runs and 30 RBIs in 115 games, 69 of them starts at the position.

Larry Allen Burright (July 10, 1937 - October 14, 2025) was a right-handed-hitting second baseman, born in Roseville, Illinois and raised in Alhambra, California. He attended Mark Keppel High School and Fullerton College, signed with the Brooklyn Dodgers organization in 1957, and spent five seasons in the farm system before reaching Los Angeles on April 12, 1962. He picked up the nickname 'Possum' for a habit of standing around smiling without saying much. His one year as a regular ended badly on both counts: a .205 average, and a ninth-inning error in the deciding game of the 1962 pennant playoff that helped San Francisco come back to beat the Dodgers 6-4 and take the flag. Traded that winter, he was finished in the majors after seven hitless at-bats in 1964 and retired in 1965 at twenty-eight, with eight minor-league seasons behind him. His career line reads 159 games, 73 hits, a .205 average, 4 home runs, 33 RBIs and 44 runs scored. He died at eighty-eight in Glendora, California.

Graded population — a scarcity guide, not a price. Snapshot 2026-09-24. Half-grades fold down (8.5→8), and PSA's qualified grades are counted separately from the straight-grade rows shown here. Slabs of the three cards printed #139 are joined by description, never by number alone. PSA registers the green tints as a separate set; a tint's population is listed under that state of the card it belongs to.
