1962 Topps #129 Lee Walls
Four collectible versions of this card exist: two photo poses, facing right in a plain jersey and facing left in a pinstriped jersey, each printed both normally and with the green background tint found across the 1962 set.

About Lee Walls
The Mets sent Walls and $100,000 to Los Angeles in December 1961 for Charlie Neal and a player to be named, and he became the Dodgers' handyman and their best bat off the bench: 13-for-27 (.482) as a pinch hitter, still the second-highest single-season pinch-hitting average on record at 30 or more plate appearances. He played all three tie-breaker games against the Giants, starting Game 1 at first base and doubling home three runs in Game 2's seven-run sixth. Card #129 is a second-series Dodgers card. Collectors chase four versions of it: two poses, facing right in a plain jersey and facing left in pinstripes, each known with and without the set's green background tint.
Ray Lee Walls Jr., born January 6, 1933 in San Diego and raised in Pasadena, played ten National League seasons (1952, 1956-1964) as an outfielder and utility man for the Pittsburgh Pirates, Chicago Cubs, Cincinnati Reds, Philadelphia Phillies and Los Angeles Dodgers. A right-handed hitter and thrower listed at 6-foot-3 and 205 pounds, he wore eyeglasses on the field, a rarity in his era, and was nicknamed "Captain Midnight" because of them. His best year came in 1958 with the Cubs: .304 with 24 home runs, 72 RBIs and a spot on the National League All-Star team, a season after he hit for the cycle at Wrigley Field. Left unprotected in the October 1961 expansion draft, he was taken by the new Mets and flipped to Los Angeles that December, and he spent three seasons there as a reserve and one of the best pinch hitters of the day. He finished at .262 with 670 hits, 66 home runs and 284 RBIs in 902 games, played 1965 in Japan for the Hankyu Braves, later coached for the Oakland Athletics and followed Billy Martin to the Yankees, and worked as an agent for athletes including Don Drysdale. He died October 11, 1993 in Los Angeles.

Graded population — a scarcity guide, not a price. Snapshot 2026-09-24. Half-grades fold down (8.5→8), and PSA's qualified grades are counted separately from the straight-grade rows shown here. Where a grader registers a variation separately its population is listed under that variation. Slabs of the three cards printed #139 are joined by description, never by number alone. PSA registers the green tints as a separate set; a tint's population is listed under that state of the card it belongs to.

It is card #129 of the 600-card 1962 Topps Baseball set, picturing Lee Walls of the Los Angeles Dodgers.
Does 1962 Topps #129 have variations?
Yes. Four states are catalogued and tracked separately: 129a - Facing Right-Plain Jersey (Lee Walls facing right in the plain jersey - the base pose), 129b - Face Left-Pinstripe Jersey (Facing left in the pinstripe jersey without the tint - TCDB and BCP know this pose only as a tint; PSA registers it plain as well), 129c - Face Left/Pinstripes-Green Tint (The face-left pinstripe pose with the green tint) and 129d - Face Right/Plain Jersey-Green Tint (The face-right plain-jersey pose with the green tint). How many cards are in the 1962 Topps Baseball set?
600 cards, tracked as 708 collectible states. The numbers run from 1 to 598 with no gaps, but three different cards were printed #139 - two Hal Reniff poses, catalogued 139a and 139b, and the Babe Hits 60 Babe Ruth Special, 139c - so 598 numbers make 600 cards; 93 cards carry catalogued print variations, the series-2 green tints among them, that the master set counts separately.
