1962 Topps #130 Frank Bolling

About Frank Bolling
Bolling has two cards in the 1962 set. Card #130, a second-series issue, comes in two collectible states: the ordinary printing and the lime-green tinted version from the botched second-series reprint, where a magenta plate problem threw the fronts green. Card #211, in the third series, is the Midway Masters combination card pairing him with shortstop Roy McMillan. Bolling hit .271 over 122 games in 1962, again led National League second basemen in fielding and was a substitute in both All-Star Games.
Frank Bolling was a second baseman who played twelve major league seasons, six with the Detroit Tigers and six with the Milwaukee and Atlanta Braves. Born in Mobile, Alabama, he signed with Detroit in June 1951 and reached the majors in 1954; military service cost him the 1955 season, and he came back to hold the Tigers' second-base job through 1960. A sure-handed defender, he won a Gold Glove in 1958 after leading American League second basemen in fielding percentage, and he later led National League second basemen in fielding in 1961, 1962 and 1964. Traded to Milwaukee after the 1960 season in the deal that sent Bill Bruton to Detroit, he made the National League All-Star team in both 1961 and 1962. His best year at the plate was 1958, with career highs of 164 hits, 91 runs and 75 runs batted in. He finished at .254 with 106 home runs and 556 runs batted in over 1,540 games, and he never took the field at any position but second base. His older brother Milt was a major league shortstop, and in 1958 the two briefly turned double plays together in Detroit. Bolling was elected to the Alabama Sports Hall of Fame in 1982.

Graded population — a scarcity guide, not a price. Snapshot 2026-09-24. Half-grades fold down (8.5→8), and PSA's qualified grades are counted separately from the straight-grade rows shown here. Where a grader registers a variation separately its population is listed under that variation. Slabs of the three cards printed #139 are joined by description, never by number alone. PSA registers the green tints as a separate set; a tint's population is listed under that state of the card it belongs to.

Frequently asked questions

It is card #130 of the 600-card 1962 Topps Baseball set, picturing Frank Bolling of the Milwaukee Braves.
Does 1962 Topps #130 have variations?
Yes. Two states are catalogued and tracked separately: 130a - No Green Tint (No green tint - the standard first printing) and 130b - Green Tint (Green tint - the color-shifted second printing of series 2). Owning any one of them fills the #130 slot; the master set counts each state.
How many cards are in the 1962 Topps Baseball set?
600 cards, tracked as 708 collectible states. The numbers run from 1 to 598 with no gaps, but three different cards were printed #139 - two Hal Reniff poses, catalogued 139a and 139b, and the Babe Hits 60 Babe Ruth Special, 139c - so 598 numbers make 600 cards; 93 cards carry catalogued print variations, the series-2 green tints among them, that the master set counts separately.
