About Mack Jones

Called up in mid-July 1961, Jones opened with four hits at St. Louis, the first of them a leadoff single off Bob Gibson, to tie a modern National League record for a debut, and finished the year batting .231 with 12 RBI in 28 games for Milwaukee. Card #186 is his series-2 rookie card, and it comes two ways: 186a with no green tint, and the green-tinted 186b out of the extra second-series run that a different printer turned out with the color off.

Mack Jones was signed by the Milwaukee Braves in 1958 out of Atlanta amateur ball, and the left-handed-hitting, right-throwing outfielder reached the majors on July 13, 1961 at age 22, tying a modern National League record with four hits in his first game. He played for the Milwaukee and Atlanta Braves (1961-1967), the Cincinnati Reds (1968) and the Montreal Expos (1969-1971), mostly in center field and later in left. A .317, 39-homer season at Triple-A Syracuse in 1964 brought him back to a career-high 31 home runs in 1965. Taken by Montreal in the October 1968 expansion draft, he was an immediate favorite there, hitting the first home run struck in a major-league regular-season game in Canada and lending his name to the left-field bleachers at Jarry Park that fans called Jonesville. Nicknamed Mack the Knife after the 1959 Bobby Darin hit, he closed ten major-league seasons at .252 with 133 home runs and 415 RBI, and was inducted into the International League Hall of Fame in 2013.

Graded population — a scarcity guide, not a price. Snapshot 2026-09-24. Half-grades fold down (8.5→8), and PSA's qualified grades are counted separately from the straight-grade rows shown here. Where a grader registers a variation separately its population is listed under that variation. Slabs of the three cards printed #139 are joined by description, never by number alone. PSA registers the green tints as a separate set; a tint's population is listed under that state of the card it belongs to.
