1962 Topps #308 Neil Chrisley

About Neil Chrisley
Chrisley's playing days ended with the Milwaukee Braves on September 24, 1961, and three weeks later the Braves sold him and Bob Botz to the brand-new New York Mets. He went to the club's first spring training, could not make the roster, and was returned to Milwaukee on April 2, 1962, nine days before the Mets played their first game. Topps had already committed him to print, so card 308 shows him as a New York Met for a franchise he never took the field for. It sits in the set's fourth series. The card also carries an uncorrected error in his printed birth date; he was born December 16, 1931.
Barbra O'Neil Chrisley, Neil to everyone in baseball, was a 6-foot-3 outfielder from Calhoun Falls, South Carolina who batted left and threw right. The Boston Red Sox signed him in 1950, a week after he graduated from Calhoun Falls High School, and a November 1955 trade sent him to the Washington Senators, where he reached the majors on April 15, 1957 and singled as a pinch hitter in his first at-bat. He was a reserve outfielder and pinch hitter from there on: 105 games with 5 home runs for Washington in 1958, a career-high 6 homers on a .132 average for Detroit in 1959, and his best all-around season in 1960, when he hit .255 with 5 home runs and 24 RBI. Across five seasons with the Senators, Tigers and Milwaukee Braves he batted .210 with 16 home runs and 64 RBI in 302 games, playing all three outfield spots and only three games anywhere else. After baseball he sold insurance in Greenwood, South Carolina; he died in Conway, South Carolina in 2013, and his old high school later put him in its hall of fame and named its baseball field for him. He was not elected to the National Baseball Hall of Fame.

Graded population — a scarcity guide, not a price. Snapshot 2026-09-24. Half-grades fold down (8.5→8), and PSA's qualified grades are counted separately from the straight-grade rows shown here. Slabs of the three cards printed #139 are joined by description, never by number alone. PSA registers the green tints as a separate set; a tint's population is listed under that state of the card it belongs to.
