The story on this card
Card 517 in the 1964 Topps set is the seventh series checklist, listing card numbers 507 through 587 so collectors could track that run. It falls in print series 6, and no player is pictured on the front. Two collectible states are recognized for this checklist: one has the correct numbering printed on the back, the other a numbering error, making it a target for error-card collectors. On the correct back the numbering starts at #542 and on the error back at #565; PSA grades the two backs as separate cards. The 507-587 block it lists straddles the sixth and seventh print series.
Print variations
Two states of #517 are tracked individually: 517a - Correct Numbering On Back and 517b - Wrong Numbering On Back. The difference is on the back of the card (checklist numbering).
States catalogued by the PSA master set registry and the Trading Card Database; each is tracked here individually.

Graded population — a scarcity guide, not a price. Data as of 2026-09-04. Half grades fold down for both graders (8.5→8); PSA qualified slabs (OC, ST, PD, MC and the like) are not counted. Where a grader registers a variation separately its population is listed under that variation.

Frequently asked questions
What is the 1964 Topps #517 card?
It is card #517 of the 587-card 1964 Topps Baseball set, 7th Series Checklist: 507-587. The seven checklist cards (#76, 102, 188, 274, 362, 438, 517) carry the blocks 1-88, 89-176, 177-264, 265-352, 353-429, 430-506 and 507-587 - none of them a real print series. The print series (1-109 / 110-196 / 197-283 / 284-370 / 371-446 / 447-522 / 523-587) are what decide how hard a card is to find.
Which #517 back is the base state?
The correct-numbering back, whose numbering starts at #542. TCDB letters the wrong-numbering back (starting at #565) 517a and the correct back 517b, and BaseballCardPedia reverses them again, so the wording is the key, never the letter.
Does 1964 Topps #517 have variations?
Yes. Two states are catalogued and tracked individually: 517a - Correct Numbering On Back (The corrected back: the 7th-series checklist numbering starts at #542 - the common state) and 517b - Wrong Numbering On Back (The error back: the numbering starts at #565 instead. The hobby catalogs letter this state "a", so go by the wording, never the letter). Owning any one of them fills the #517 slot; the master set counts each state.
Why is #517 harder to find?
It is a series 5-6 card. Cards from the fifth and sixth print series (#371-522) are a step tougher to find than #1-370; availability in 1964 runs in three tiers, not a cliff.
How many cards are in the 1964 Topps Baseball set?
587 cards, tracked as 589 collectible states. Numbers run from 1 to 587 with no gaps, and no number carries two different cards; two cards - #4, the A.L. Pitching Leaders, and #517, the seventh-series checklist - carry a catalogued back variation that the master set counts separately.
