The story on this card
This 1965 Topps Rookie Stars card, #82, introduces Alomar alongside fellow Milwaukee Braves prospect John Braun and is a recognized rookie card, issued in the set's first print series. Alomar split the 1965 season between the Braves and the Triple-A Atlanta Crackers, playing shortstop and second base, and hit .241 with 8 RBIs and 16 runs in 67 games with Milwaukee. A speedy, glove-first infielder from Puerto Rico who reached the majors in 1964, made the 1970 All-Star team with the Angels, and later coached in the majors; father of All-Stars Sandy Alomar Jr. and Roberto Alomar.
This recognized rookie card pairs Braun with fellow Braves farmhand Santos Alomar on a Rookie Stars multi-player panel, part of Topps' first print series for the year. Braun arrived on the card off his lone 1964 look with Milwaukee, when he worked two shutout innings of relief and struck out future Hall of Famer Roberto Clemente. He would appear in the Braves' system through 1965 but never returned to the majors, leaving this card as the primary Topps issue tied to his brief big-league moment. A 6-foot-5 right-hander out of Madison, Wisconsin, whose entire major league career was one relief outing for the 1964 Milwaukee Braves - two scoreless innings capped by a strikeout of Roberto Clemente.
