About Aubrey Gatewood

This 1966 Topps card, from the set's first series, follows Gatewood's 1965 season with the Angels, his only full year in the majors. Working out of the bullpen in 46 games with three starts, he went 4-5 with a 3.42 ERA over 92 innings. It was his last season in an Angels uniform before he moved to the minors and changed organizations.

Aubrey Gatewood was a right-handed pitcher from Little Rock, Arkansas who reached the majors with the Los Angeles Angels in September 1963. In his first big-league start he threw a complete-game win over the Boston Red Sox, allowing just one run. He worked mostly in relief over the next two seasons, with 1965 standing as his only full year in the majors, appearing in 46 games for the Angels. After 1965 he spent time in the minors and moved through several organizations before a brief return with the Atlanta Braves in 1970, his final big-league season. Across four seasons and 68 games he went 8-9 with a 2.78 ERA. He signed with Detroit out of Arkansas State in 1960 and was taken by the Angels in the American League's inaugural expansion draft before ever reaching the majors with them.

Where SGC registers no separate row for a variation state, its slabs of that card are listed under the base state.
