1966 Topps #43 Don Landrum

About Don Landrum
Landrum turns up at #43 in the first series of the 1966 set, pictured as a Cub on the strength of 131 games, a .226 average, six home runs and 34 RBI in center field the year before. He was already gone: on December 2, 1965 Chicago traded Landrum and pitcher Lindy McDaniel to San Francisco for catcher Randy Hundley and pitcher Bill Hands, two men who became fixtures on the Cubs' late-1960s contenders. Landrum hit .186 in 72 games for the Giants and played his final game on July 21, 1966. Collectors know the card for its three states, which turn on whether the button on his uniform pants is fully showing, partly showing or not showing at all.
Donald Leroy Landrum was born February 16, 1936, in Santa Rosa, California, and attended Mount Diablo High School in Concord. A left-handed hitter who threw right-handed, he stood 6 feet tall at 180 pounds and signed with the Philadelphia Phillies as an amateur free agent in June 1954. Landrum debuted on September 28, 1957, starting both ends of a season-ending pair in center field for the Phillies, then did not surface in the majors again until 1960. Philadelphia traded him to the St. Louis Cardinals in September 1960, and he logged just 73 games and a .227 average across three Cardinals seasons before a June 1962 deal sent him to the Chicago Cubs. He is best remembered in Chicago, where he was the club's regular center fielder in 1965. That December the Cubs dealt him to the San Francisco Giants, and he played his last big-league game on July 21, 1966. Over eight seasons Landrum hit .234 with 12 home runs and 75 RBI in 456 games. He later worked in businesses in East Contra Costa County and died at his home in Pittsburg, California, on January 9, 2003, at age 66.

Graded population — a scarcity guide, not a price. Data as of 2026-09-04. Half grades fold down for both graders (8.5→8); PSA qualified slabs (OC, ST, PD, MC and the like) are not counted. Where a grader registers a variation separately its population is listed under that variation; PSA and SGC slabs whose label names no variation are listed as not designated. Where SGC registers no separate row for a variation state, its slabs of that card are listed under the base state.
