1966 Topps #166 Chris Krug

About Chris Krug
Krug's 1966 season was his second with the Chicago Cubs, a brief 11-game stint, mostly behind the plate, that closed out his time in Chicago before he went unseen in the majors for two years and resurfaced with the expansion Padres in 1969. His 1966 Topps card, #166 from the set's second print series, is a recognized rookie card that pictures him with the Cubs.
Everett Ben Krug, known as Chris Krug, was a catcher born December 25, 1939, in Los Angeles, California. The St. Louis Cardinals signed him as an amateur free agent in 1958, and the Chicago Cubs drafted him out of the Cardinals system in the 1964 minor league draft. Krug reached the majors with the Cubs in 1965 and stayed through 1966 before finishing his career in 1969 with the expansion San Diego Padres. Across three big league seasons he appeared in 79 games, batting .192 with 5 home runs and 25 RBI. He was never selected to an All-Star team and is not a Hall of Fame inductee. Krug died on January 16, 2026, at age 86.

Where SGC registers no separate row for a variation state, its slabs of that card are listed under the base state.
