The story on this card
Browne's 1966 season was his most productive, appearing in 120 games for the Cubs with a .243 average, 16 home runs, and 51 RBI, though he also led the National League in strikeouts with 143. His 1966 Topps #139, a plain second-series issue, shares space with fellow Cubs rookie Don Young in the Rookie Stars subset and is a recognized rookie card. Byron Browne was an outfielder from St. Joseph, Missouri, whose major-league debut in 1965 came against Sandy Koufax's perfect game; he went on to play for the Cubs, Astros, Cardinals, and Phillies through 1972.
Young's 1966 Topps card, #139, is a Rookie Stars issue from print series 2, shared with fellow Cubs prospect Byron Browne. It followed Young's brief 1965 debut, when he appeared in just 11 games and famously made the first out of Sandy Koufax's perfect game. He would not return to the majors until 1969, spending the intervening seasons in the minors. Don Young was a Chicago Cubs outfielder whose brief two-season career is remembered for a defensive mishap in the 1969 pennant race that drew public criticism from his own manager and teammate.
