1966 Topps #512 Dick Stigman

About Dick Stigman
Card 512 is a sixth-series card and shows Stigman with the Boston Red Sox, the last club of his career. Minnesota traded him east as camp broke that spring, and Billy Herman gave him seven starts that produced one loss and six no-decisions before moving him to the bullpen. The highlight came May 31, a complete-game 1-0 win over the Chicago White Sox in which he scattered seven hits, one of only two victories he collected all year. He pitched in the majors for the last time on September 10, and Boston sent him to the Cincinnati organization that winter. One more season in the minors followed, and he retired rather than report to another assignment.
Richard Lewis Stigman, born January 24, 1936, in Nimrod, Minnesota, was a left-handed pitcher who spent seven major-league seasons with the Cleveland Indians, Minnesota Twins and Boston Red Sox between 1960 and 1966. Three days after he graduated from Sebeka High School in the spring of 1954, the Cleveland scout who had signed Bob Feller and Bob Lemon drove out to sign him, having watched the strapping teenager strike out 21 batters in a seven-inning perfect game. Stigman climbed the Indians' farm system behind a 17-9, 1.44 ERA season at Class D Vidalia in 1956, reached Cleveland in 1960 and was traded to his home-state Twins two years later. Minnesota got his best work, both as a starter and out of the bullpen, and he was on the roster when the Twins won the 1965 American League pennant. Over 235 big-league games he went 46-54 with a 4.03 ERA and 755 strikeouts. He became a Minneapolis-area businessman afterward, and a park in Nimrod called Stigman's Mound carries his name.

Where SGC registers no separate row for a variation state, its slabs of that card are listed under the base state.
