The story on this card
Topps #401 reports the Mets' 1967 season, when the club went 61-101 and finished tenth in the National League, 40 1/2 games behind the pennant-winning Cardinals, under managers Wes Westrum and Salty Parker. The 1967 squad was headlined by rookie right-hander Tom Seaver, who went 16-13 with a 2.76 ERA and a club-record 170 strikeouts across 18 complete games, earning National League Rookie of the Year honors and an All-Star selection. Regulars included outfielder Tommy Davis (.302, 16 home runs), shortstop Bud Harrelson, catcher Jerry Grote, and first baseman Ed Kranepool. Seaver's arrival began turning the last-place club from an expansion punchline toward a legitimate ballclub at Shea Stadium.
