1969 Topps #97 Buddy Bradford

About Buddy Bradford
Bradford's 1969 season was the best of his career with the White Sox, as he played 93 games and hit .256 with a career-high 11 home runs, 27 RBI and 36 runs scored, mostly stationed in the outfield. That performance is reflected on his 1969 Topps card, #97, a print series 1 issue that pictures him alone in a White Sox uniform.
Charles William Bradford, known as Buddy, was an outfielder born July 25, 1944, in Mobile, Alabama. He broke into the majors with the Chicago White Sox in September 1966 and spent parts of eleven seasons in the big leagues, wearing a White Sox uniform in three separate stretches around stints with the Cleveland Indians, Cincinnati Reds and St. Louis Cardinals. His best offensive season came in 1969, when he hit a career-high 11 home runs for the White Sox. A trade sent him from Chicago to Cleveland in mid-1970, and a later deal returned him to the White Sox from St. Louis after the 1975 season. Bradford was known for a strong throwing arm and steady outfield defense, though he never won a Gold Glove. He finished his career with 697 games played, a .226 batting average, 52 home runs and 175 RBI, closing out his final big-league season with Chicago in 1976 before playing a year in Japan.
