1969 Topps #338 Del Unser
Card carries Topps' All-Star Rookie trophy design, marking Unser as one of the top rookies of the prior season.

About Del Unser
Coming off a rookie season that saw him finish runner-up for AL Rookie of the Year, Unser broke out in 1969 under new Washington manager Ted Williams, hitting .286 with 7 home runs and leading the American League with 8 triples. Card #338 comes from the fourth series of the 1969 Topps set and captures Unser with the Washington Senators; it is a recognised rookie card for him. The back of the card recounted how he'd been ticketed for Triple-A in 1968 before an outstanding spring training earned him the starting center field job on Opening Day instead.
Del Unser was a lefty-hitting outfielder who spent 15 seasons in the majors from 1968 to 1982, breaking in with the Washington Senators and finishing second in AL Rookie of the Year voting his first year. He later played for the Cleveland Indians, Philadelphia Phillies, New York Mets and Montreal Expos, moving among those clubs in a string of trades. A steady defender in center field with occasional power, Unser topped .280 several times and led the American League in triples in 1969. He is best remembered for his role on the Phillies' 1980 World Series championship team, where as a pinch hitter he delivered clutch doubles in Games 2 and 5 against the Kansas City Royals. Unser's father, Al Unser, also played in the majors and later coached and scouted, and Del followed a similar path after retiring as a player, working for the Phillies as a coach, farm director and scout for decades. His college play at Mississippi State earned him induction into the Mississippi Sports Hall of Fame in 1997.
