The story on this card
Steve Mingori's 1969 Topps card is a series 4 Rookie Stars issue, card #339, shared with fellow pitching prospect Jose Pena and picturing both men as Cincinnati Reds. Mingori had signed with the Reds in 1965 and was still working his way through their farm system at the time this card was printed, more than a year before Cleveland traded for him and he made his major league debut. It is a recognized rookie card for a pitcher who would go on to a decade-long relief career, though not with the Reds organization pictured on it. Left-handed reliever for the Cleveland Indians and Kansas City Royals from 1970-1979, a Kansas City native who finished 18-33 with 42 saves and pitched in three straight ALCS defeats to the Yankees.
Pena made his major league debut with the Cincinnati Reds in 1969, appearing in six games out of the bullpen and going 1-1 with an 18.00 ERA over five innings. His 1969 Topps card, #339, is a recognized rookie card in the fourth print series, on a multi-player Rookie Stars subset shared with fellow pitcher Steve Mingori, both pictured representing the Reds as they broke into the majors that year. Mexican right-hander who pitched for the Reds and Dodgers from 1969 through 1972, working almost exclusively in relief, then spent 22 winters starring in the Mexican Pacific League.
