About Jim Campanis

Campanis joined the Kansas City Royals for the 1969 season, the expansion club's inaugural year, catching in 26 of his 30 games. His card that year, from the set's fourth print series, shows him with Kansas City and is not a rookie card.

James Alexander Campanis was a right-handed catcher who spent six seasons in the majors, from 1966 through 1970 and again in 1973. He broke in with the Los Angeles Dodgers, appearing in stretches through 1968, then moved to the Kansas City Royals for the 1969 and 1970 seasons before closing his playing days with the Pittsburgh Pirates in 1973. His father, Al Campanis, was a former big league infielder who went on to a long front-office career with the Dodgers, giving Jim a family tie to the organization he broke in with. Beyond his MLB stints, Campanis also played winter ball in Mexico's Pacific League, suiting up for the Algodoneros de Guasave, the Caneros de Los Mochis and the Yaquis de Obregon. He later returned to work for the Dodgers organization and was with the club when it won the 1988 World Series.
