1969 Topps #134 Jim Weaver

About Jim Weaver
Weaver's 1969 Topps card, issued in the set's second print series, looked back on his rookie 1967 season with the Angels, when he went 3-0 with a 2.67 ERA and a save across 13 appearances including two starts. By the time the card reached shelves he had already thrown his last major league pitch in June 1968, closing out a two-year run built on a long minor league apprenticeship that ran from Cocoa and Reading through Hawaii and Nicaragua.
James Brian Weaver, a left-handed pitcher, was born February 19, 1939, in Lancaster, Pennsylvania. He worked his way through a long chain of minor league stops, including the Cocoa Indians, Burlington Indians, Reading Indians, Mobile Bears, Salt Lake City Bees, Portland Beavers, Oklahoma City 89ers, Seattle Angels, El Paso Sun Kings, Hawaii Islanders, and Elmira Pioneers, and also pitched professionally in Nicaragua. He finally reached the majors with the California Angels, debuting August 13, 1967. Over parts of two seasons in Anaheim he went 3-1 with a 2.55 ERA across 27 games, working mostly in relief with two starts and one save. His final big league appearance came June 29, 1968. He is not a Hall of Famer.
