1969 Topps #103 Roger Repoz

About Roger Repoz
Repoz had his roughest big-league season in 1969, batting .164 for the Angels as he lost playing time to Jay Johnstone. This 1969 Topps card, from the set's first print series, pictures him with California heading into that difficult year.
Roger Repoz was a left-handed-hitting outfielder from Bellingham, Washington, who starred at Western Washington University before signing with the Yankees. He reached the majors in September 1964 and spent parts of three seasons in New York before a June 1966 trade sent him to Kansas City, then on to California a year later. Standing 6-foot-3, Repoz built a reputation as a strong defender who could also drive the ball, topping double figures in home runs five times. From 1967 to 1970 he set a major-league record for nonpitchers by going 347 games without hitting into a double play. His best power seasons came with the Angels, including 18 homers in 1970. He finished his major-league-affiliated career with Baltimore's system in 1972, then spent five productive seasons in Japan's Nippon Professional Baseball before retiring to a long career in carpet mill manufacturing.
