1970 Topps #682 Dalton Jones

About Dalton Jones
Dalton Jones played 89 games for the 1970 Tigers, hitting .220 with 6 home runs and 21 RBI, mostly at second and third base. On July 9 a bases-loaded drive into the right-field upper deck in Detroit was scored a three-RBI single instead of a grand slam, because he passed teammate Don Wert between first and second base and was called out. His #682 is a seventh-series high number and shows him with the Tigers.
Dalton Jones was a left-handed-hitting utility infielder who spent nine major league seasons with the Boston Red Sox, Detroit Tigers and Texas Rangers, from 1964 through 1972. A Mississippi native who starred at shortstop in Baton Rouge, he signed with Boston for a $60,000 bonus and worked his way up through the Red Sox system before debuting in 1964. He played second base, third base and first base for Boston across the rest of the decade and was also used as a pinch-hitter. His best season came in 1967, when he hit a career-high .289, led the American League in pinch hits, and started at third base for Boston in the World Series. Traded to Detroit before the 1970 season, he closed out his career there and with Texas in 1972. Over 907 games he batted .235 with 41 home runs and 237 RBI.
