The story on this card
The 1970 White Sox went 56-106 and finished last in the American League West, 42 wins behind the Minnesota Twins. It was the team's last season of 100 or more losses until 2018. Don Gutteridge was fired on September 1 with the team at 49-87, Bill Adair filled in briefly, and Chuck Tanner came over from the Class AAA club in Hawaii to finish 3-13. Tanner stayed on the South Side through 1975. Luis Aparicio, the Hall of Fame shortstop, hit a career-high .313 and won a Gold Glove. Comiskey Park drew 495,355 fans, the lowest total in the majors, and the club hired organist Nancy Faust, a fixture at Comiskey and its successor park for 40 years. The White Sox team card is #289 in the 1971 Topps series three.
