The story on this card
Topps #624 is the Minor League Player of the Year Award trophy card, part of the Awards group at #621-626 and printed in the fifth series. Awards and Trophy cards made their first appearance in the 1972 Topps set. The Topps Company presented the award annually beginning in 1960, in conjunction with Minor League Baseball, to the minor-league player deemed to have had the most outstanding season. Winners were chosen in a poll of minor-league baseball writers. The 1971 winner was shortstop Bobby Grich, who also has a base card in this set at #338. The card pictures the trophy itself.
