The story on this card

The 1972 Cleveland Indians went 72-84 under Ken Aspromonte, finishing fifth in the American League East, 14 games behind Detroit's 86-70. Gaylord Perry, acquired from San Francisco with Frank Duffy for Sam McDowell on November 29, 1971, went 24-16 with a 1.92 ERA and 234 strikeouts and was an All-Star reserve. The team ERA was 2.92, but Cleveland scored 472 runs and allowed 519. Chris Chambliss hit .292, Graig Nettles hit 17 home runs with 70 RBI, and catcher Ray Fosse added 10 homers. Off the field, a group led by George Steinbrenner offered $8.6 million for the club in December 1971, but owner Vernon Stouffer rejected the deal. Card #629, the Cleveland Indians team card, is a high number from the fifth series of 1973 Topps.
