1974 Topps #246 Oakland A's
Hall of Famers on the 1973 Oakland Athletics roster: Rollie Fingers, Catfish Hunter, Reggie Jackson and Dick Williams.

About this card
This is one of the 24 team cards, one for each club. Managers have cards of their own this year, separate from the team cards, and the Athletics, Yankees and Padres have a team card but no manager card. #246 reads "Oakland A's" on the front, and #226 San Diego Padres is one of the cards also printed with "Washington Nat'l Lea." as the team name.
The story on this card
Oakland won its third straight American League West title in 1973, finishing 94-68 under Dick Williams, then beat Baltimore 3 games to 2 in the ALCS, where Catfish Hunter shut out the Orioles 3-0 in the decider. The staff had three 20-game winners in Hunter, Ken Holtzman and Vida Blue, and Rollie Fingers and Reggie Jackson were on the roster. The World Series against the New York Mets went seven games. It was marred when Charlie Finley forced reserve second baseman Mike Andrews to sign a false injury affidavit after two errors in Game Two, and Commissioner Bowie Kuhn made Finley back down. Williams announced his resignation while the Series was still being played. The A's rallied from 3-2 down to win a second straight title. Topps issued the team card as #246 in its 1974 set.
